It is a great opportunity to learn where our water comes from and how it is treated before reaching our taps.
Here are some recounts of the day.
On Tuesday at 9am Year 2 drove by bus to Deep Creek Dam. The teachers came too.
When we got there Mrs Frost, (our teacher,) got swooped by a plover. Everyone yelled "AHH!" when it came down.
Then we got back on the bus. Next we drove to the Filtration Plant and had lunch.
We were given a drink bottle.
We left at 12:45 pm.
Thanks. I learnt a lot.
On Tuesday the 23rd of October all of Year 2 and Year 2 teachers drove to Deep Creek Dam.
Gilly told us all about Deep Creek Dam. When we walked across the road so Gilly could tell us about the water level there was a plover and it was swooping us. Mrs Frost kept waving her jacket at it.
After that we drove to the Filtration Plant. They showed us their lab. Then we got to go with Gilly downstairs. After that we saw the backwash. Then we got to see dirt and dirty water.
Then we drove back to school.
Thankyou - I learnt so much.
On Tuesday, the 23rd of October all of Year 2 and teachers went to see Depp Creek Dam and the Filtration Plant.
The first person we met was the bus driver, Warren. He drove us to Deep Creek Dam. That's where we met Gilly. She warned us about snakes and told us about Deep Creek Dam. We walked to this dry, concreted place that looked like a skate ramp. On the dry place there were 3 colours - red, yellow and green. Red was first, yellow was second and green was last. Gilly told us the green meant it was flooding.
After that we walked back to the bus and hopped in to drive to the Filtration Plant. It was a long drive but we finally got there, so we jumped out and met 2 other people. Their names were Adam and Stuart. Adam talked to us about what was happening and we started.
First 2F walked upstairs and 2S stayed downstairs. 2F went with Adam and talked about healthy water and unhealthy water. Then we visited the lab and looked at this blue gluey thing.
Next 2F walked back downstairs and learned a few more things about the catchment area.
Then we came together and watched this cool thing happen. It was called the backwash.
Soon it was time to go so Adam showed us a few more thingsand we left, but before we left we said "thank you."
I learnt a lot of cool information.
On Tuesday all of Year 2 and the teachers drove by bus to Deep Creek Dam and the Filtration Plant.
We went there to learn about our water. Deep Creek Dam was built in 1983. The Filtration Plant was built on 2011.
Than k you Gilly, Stuart, Adam and Warren.
On Tuesday 2F, 2S and 2P went on an excursion. The three classes and the teachers went too and we drove on the bus to Deep Creek Dam and the Filtration Plant. We had Crunch and Sip there and then ate lunch there. Gilly, Adam, Stuart and Greg talked to us about water and the new restrictions. We looked at the ashphalt. There are dirt farms on there. Next we watched the backwash. It was amazing.
Thank you for helping us learn about water. I learnt a lot.
